Trachelospermum jasminoides
A true species (genus Trachelospermum, family Apocynaceae) - not a botanical jasmine (Jasminum) despite the common name, but prized for the same pungently sweet, highly fragrant scent. Pinwheel-shaped white flowers age to creamy white with a yellowish tinge, blooming heavily in spring with sporadic repeat into summer. Glossy dark green mature foliage takes on bronze-red or purple tones as new growth or in cool weather. Rapid, twining grower suited to trellises, pergolas, fences, and walls, or trained low as a clipped groundcover on slopes. RHS Award of Garden Merit recipient. Drought-tolerant and salt-tolerant once established; deer and rabbit resistant; non-toxic to cats, dogs and horses; attracts pollinators, especially bees. Fragrance: Rich, sweet, pungent.
